Closing Out The Weekend With A Wild Card Forecast

Sunday, March 21st

(7:10pm update): We closed out the weekend today with an “anything goes” forecast that brought a few inches of wet March snow. The workweek should begin the same way tomorrow, with continued mostly cloudy skies, again bringing a chance for light snow, a wintry mix, or a rain shower. So, basically, be prepared for any of those things, while hoping for another snowy surprise. Highs will stay mild in the low-40s, while calm north winds shouldn’t be a factor.

We’ll have four lifts spinning Monday, serving 55 trails and all 3 terrain parks. The Vista Quad will open first, at 9am, followed by Timberline at 9:30, and Snowflake and Mitey Mite at 10am. About 22 trails will be smoothed out by the groomers, leaving behind true spring surfaces that may be firm early, and soften later on. Ungroomed terrain will be more variable. Tomorrow also begins our special late-march ticket deal, with lift tickets for all ages just $29 Monday through Friday. And don't forget that 2010-11 Season Passes are now for sale, with prices increasing after April 4th. So buy your pass now, save some money, and use it to ski free the rest of this season.

Coverage remains good on our Nordic terrain, and the spring skiing has been nice and soft. The machines will stay off our trails overnight, leaving us with the 11km of skate grooming and classic tracks that were set this morning. Our ungroomed backcountry offers 80km of snow-rich terrain for exploring on skis or snowshoes. The wax of the day will be Red Special Hard Wax or Klister. And next year's Nordic Season Passes are also now on sale.

The stretch of non-stop sunny and spring-like weather to begin the month was undeniably boring. So let’s enjoy this unstable, unpredictable weather while it lasts, and hope we get some fresh spring snow out of it.

Conditions below are our projections for Monday, March 22nd.
